Expression of frustration : life with duke the dachshund #1

Expression of frustration : life with duke the dachshund #1 Have you ever tried to train your dog by yourself? If you have, you will know that it is one of the most frustrating activities. With nothing to do in the summer holidays, I asked my mother for suggestions on what to do. Of course, she suggested maths which I immediately dismissed. I stared at the tiny brown face of my dachshund and had the crazy lightbulb idea moment to train him. Why is this crazy? Because I have tried this before and failed miserably. (other than with the commands sit and sometimes stay). Well, I guess duke guessed what I was going to do because it took me a good 10 minutes to make him come with me.  This was successfully done by using 1 in 4 treats that duke likes,(unlike most dogs in this world, he isn't much of a fan of food) to keep him at my heels(literally). Once that was done, we revised 'sit' for the first 10 mins. Though he was very enthusiastic at first, he became more reluctant when...

A cough and a cold - A poem by Mekhala Charan

A cough and a cold It all started with a normal cough and cold Well, nothing to worry about! Best to be brave and bold But suddenly, a hint of doubt... Is it?-wait, no, it couldn’t be Was something else inside of me? That burn behind my eyes Maybe a check would be wise? No, I shall wait Maybe this isn’t my fate Oh, but 5 days gone And I start to fawn In a state of panic I took the fever tonic Ahh.. much better  Not too long, it was back, however I decided to take the safety measure It came back positive to my utmost terror 'I was near her, now I fear her', they chanted! 'Take her away!' , they demanded None willing to take the risk For it might make them sick I was put in  bed alone With the sickness I owned. Oh, how I wish I hadn’t hesitated To take the measure before it elevated. Suddenly through the darkness, faces shown It was the people who had me disowned Though staggered and weak was my breath I knew that it wouldn’t be my death

A light in the darkness

This poem was written by me one year ago, and I think it really relates to the ongoing pandemic. The poem is short and, I don't think I can call it completely straight forward, but it is an easy read and you can understand it after reading it just once. The reason that I am sharing this particular poem which was written by the 10-year-old me is that I want all those who are in the depths of despair, or in a hard situation. Remember that there is always light in the darkness, always a way out. you might say that this is life and not a fairy tale where there is a miraculous way out. But you are very, very wrong. As the saying goes: happiness isn't just an emotion, it's also a choice. you need to CHOOSE to find that happiness. and once you do, I am not saying you are going to go from miserable to happy in a moment. it will take some time but eventually, you will heal! You might ask, how do I find happiness or a solution. The first step, of course, is to have hope! And that is...

How I think schools around the world have addressed learning during the pandemic.

When I signed up for an elocution competition that was being held in my school, My first thought was that the topic would be around the lines of online learning. Though what I predicted came true, the way they phrased the topic made me think a bit more. Honestly, I thought it would be easy to think about online learning and how I have experienced it. But, again the way they phrased it changed my perspective of the topic. The topic was:  How do you think schools around the world have addressed learning during the pandemic.   My expectation was that it would be about my experience, but the topic asked me about what I think about how schools have addressed learning during the pandemic. The fact that they were giving us 11 and 12-year-olds the opportunity to express our opinions on such a worldly matter, left me pleasantly surprised. After some thinking, here is what I wrote for my speech: I have a question for all: which do you prefer? Online or physical learning? This pande...
