A light in the darkness

This poem was written by me one year ago, and I think it really relates to the ongoing pandemic. The poem is short and, I don't think I can call it completely straight forward, but it is an easy read and you can understand it after reading it just once. The reason that I am sharing this particular poem which was written by the 10-year-old me is that I want all those who are in the depths of despair, or in a hard situation. Remember that there is always light in the darkness, always a way out. you might say that this is life and not a fairy tale where there is a miraculous way out. But you are very, very wrong. As the saying goes: happiness isn't just an emotion, it's also a choice. you need to CHOOSE to find that happiness. and once you do, I am not saying you are going to go from miserable to happy in a moment. it will take some time but eventually, you will heal! You might ask, how do I find happiness or a solution. The first step, of course, is to have hope! And that is the meaning of my poem. I really hope you enjoy reading it.

                              A light in the darkness

In the darkness, my hands were blindly trying to grope

To find a way to help me cope

The dark space was seemingly infinite

The hard, cold floor rough like granite

I felt miserable and insecure

like a disease that no one could cure

My body was as heavy as lead

Something made my heart fill with dread

Misery silently stalked behind

I had never felt despair of that kind

Suddenly a ray of light pierced through the dark

The reality didn’t seem anymore stark

My eyes shone bright,

Not leaving a trace of fright

As merry memories unfurled,

I knew there was joy left in the world!

Even though there were many steps to take

Out of that misery, I knew I could break!

What was the reason dark changed to light?

Simply the fact that hope was in sight!

the end
